How does billing & payment work on Avvo?

To purchase an Avvo subscription, or update your payment method, an Avvo representative will send you a secure, encrypted link by email. We will not request that you provide your credit card number over the phone or in email. Instead, you will enter your payment information to a secure payment form on our website.

 After you submit your payment information, we will email you a receipt, and your Avvo representative will receive a notification that your payment has processed. Always save this receipt for your records.


What if I received an email or phone call requesting my billing information?

At Avvo, we will never ask you to provide your credit card information over the phone or in email. We will always send an encrypted, secure link where you can enter your payment information. We will only send you the secure link after an account manager has discussed your purchase with you. This request will never be as a follow up, or at any other time.

 If you receive an email or phone call that you suspect is not from Avvo, please contact your Account Manager immediately. Your Account Manager can confirm if they have recently reached out to you, or help verify if the email or phone call was not from Avvo.

 The security of your information is important to us. We take any attempts of this nature seriously and will pursue all available avenues to identify and shut down the source of any scam. Please let your Account Manager know if you have any questions or concerns, or contact Customer Care at


What do phishing emails look like?

“Phishing” refers to an illegal attempt to obtain your private, sensitive data, such as credit card information or login credentials. Phishing emails can range from obviously flawed, with bad grammar, misspelled words, and strange email domains, to more sophisticated versions with download prompts and attached files.

 If you receive an email that seems suspicious:

  1. Do not open any attachments or click on any links in the email.
  2. Check the sender’s email address. Strange domains are the first sign that it might be a scam. However, sophisticated phishing attempts can spoof legitimate domains such as ‘’ or ‘’.
  3. Contact your Account Manager. They can help verify if the email was from Avvo or not.
